Q: Do the helmets come with straps?
A: All helmets come with straps. It sure seems dumb to say that, but believe me, people do call and ask because some images don't show the straps. It's our favorite dumb question. Most helmets come with D-Rings unless specified in the description of the helmet.
Q: Do you stock all of the helmets offered on your website?
A: We offer more helmets on our web site than most retail outlets can keep in stock. We don't always have everything we offer in stock but we can usually get anything we offer within 1-4 days. We do maintain a large Novelty Helmet inventory and a large Shorty Style Helmet inventory in both gloss black and matt or flat black.
Q: What is a skid lid or shorty helmet?
A: Skid lid is a slang term for a type of small DOT approved helmet. Shorty is a style, like 3/4 open face or half-helmet or full face helmet. A skid lid or shorty helmet is the lowest profile DOT approved helmet that you can buy. The next step down from that would be a novelty helmet which is not DOT approved. Old School Beanie is a shorty style made by Zox Helmets. The shorty is a notch above a novelty helmet which is not dot approved. The shorty was developed for the rider who wanted a dot approved helmet yet wanted something as small as a novelty helmet. Most are polycarbonate shells to keep cost down. The stronger shells are made of fiberglass, slightly higher in cost. Now one company is offering the shorty helmet in carbon fiber which is the lightest weight and strongest construction and highest priced by 3 or 4 times the other shells. You get what you pay for.
Q: What is the difference between a Full-Face, 3/4 Open Face, and a Shorty style helmet?
A: A Full-Face Helmet covers your entire head and offers the best protection available. Your face is enclosed in the helmet to provide maximum protection from the elements and the ever so dreaded crash. Typically, full-face helmets are fitted with a shield that opens and closes. 3/4 helmets or Open-Face helmets are a notch below a full-face where your entire head is protected but your face is exposed. These helmets generally come with a visor and you have the option of attaching a shield if you would like to. Shorty helmets are popular for style. These offer just enough protection to carry a DOT rating. Only the top of your head is protected and they come down to the top of your ears. The shorties we offer vary in strap, buckle, visor and shell construction.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE HELMETS FOR CHILDREN.
Q: How do I know if my order has shipped?
A: The day that we ship your order out to you, you will receive a confirmation via email providing you with your tracking number and stating that your order status has been changed to shipped. Once you receive your tracking number, after 6pm EST that day you can go to www.UPS.com and enter your tracking number. You have to wait until 6pm because that's when UPS enters it into their system. If you check before then, it will say your tracking number is invalid. Typically, your order will ship within 24-48 hours, Monday-Friday, after you purchase. Some products we have in stock and ship immediatelly and others take us 1-3 days to get in. If your order doesn't ship immediately, we generally will update your order at the end of the business day to let you know the timeframe in which your order will ship.
WE DO NOT SHIP ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS.Q: How do I figure out what size helmet I need?
A: First and foremost, you need to measure your head...CORRECTLY. Forget everything you have heard about measuring your head size and let us teach you the right way. Find a shoelace, string, or something similar. Place one end of the string on the back of your head the sticks out the furthest. Most of our skulls are similar and we have a ridge on the back of our head. From that point, bring the string around to the front of your face placing it two-fingers width above your eyebrows. Finish running the string around your head meeting the end of the string you started with. Now you take a tape measure and the length of the string you used to find out your measurement. Now that you have your head size, write it down. Almost every helmet on our website has a link to our size chart so that you don't have to leave the webpage of the product you want to find the size. Match your measurement with the according size and place your order. In the incident that your size is very close to or right on the maximum range of that size, you should go to the next size up. I recommend this because you may wear a bandanna and also it's better to have a little slack than to have it too tight.
